1. What We Process
Text, documents, and images you submit are processed to produce translations and formatted output. Job inputs and outputs are held temporarily in a local job store on our servers so your browser (or API client) can retrieve them. We do not sell your content or use it to train models.
2. Local Processing
Translation and image OCR use our Ollama server with Qwen models. By default, your content is not sent to third-party translation services.
3. Google Translate Fallback
If Ollama translation fails, you may explicitly choose an optional Google Translate fallback. Only then is your text sent to Google for translation. This is entirely your choice.
4. What We Collect
Depending on how you use the service, we may process:
- Job content — text, uploaded files, and generated previews/exports, kept only for the job lifecycle described in Data Retention
- IP address — for rate limiting and abuse prevention
- Anonymized analytics — via Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymization enabled
- Anonymous feature votes — if you use the Software page poll, we store a one-way hash of your IP address with your ranking preference so each visitor can vote once and see aggregate results. Optional free-text ideas are stored in the same row as that hash
- Optional account data — if you create an account (for example for API access), we store your email, a password hash, premium status, and hashed API keys. We do not store raw API keys after issuance
- Campaign attribution — if you arrive from a tagged link (for example a link we posted on Reddit), we store the campaign tags from that link in a first-party cookie for 30 days, and attach them to your account if you create one. This tells us which post brought people in. It is three short labels such as "reddit"; it contains nothing about you, no browsing history, and no record of pages you visited
- Payments (when enabled) — card payments are processed by Stripe; we store Stripe customer/subscription identifiers needed to keep premium status in sync. Card details stay with Stripe
5. Cookies
We use cookies or similar storage only as needed for site operation (for example login session and poll voter identity), and a 30-day campaign attribution cookie set only if you arrive from a tagged link. Google Analytics may set its own cookies subject to Google's policies.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
Translation jobs are stored temporarily so results can be delivered:
- Website and API delivery — after a preview is retrieved or a file is downloaded, server copies of that job’s output are removed promptly
- Telegram — if you link Telegram from your account, your messages are a delivery channel to the same job API under your account quota; Telegram also processes those messages under its own policies
- In-progress jobs — abandoned running jobs are removed automatically within about 30 minutes
- Completed but unfetched jobs — if a finished job is never retrieved, it expires automatically within about 24 hours (needed for delayed API polling and fallback continue)
Account records and API key hashes remain until you ask us to delete the account (or we close the beta). We never sell your data. Privacy questions or deletion requests: admin@formattedchinese.com.
